To write the theme song, he tapped Randy "Rider in the Rain" Newman, and to sing it Lasseter picked today's leading cowboy-music group, Riders in the Sky. To explain this back story, filmmaker John Lasseter re-created the TV show, "Woody's Roundup," with all the detail of an obsessive, middle-aged nostalgist. The collector wants the Woody the Cowboy figure because this character from a 1950s TV show has become an extremely valuable piece of memorabilia. In last year's delightful animated film "Toy Story 2," a young boy's favorite toy is stolen by an obsessive, middle-aged toy collector (who suspiciously resembles many record-collecting rock critics).
